Teaching Your Child The 3 Point Stance in Football

Show Notes June 4, 2005

Apology

Teaching 3 Point Stance

Feet Shoulder width or less

If right handed right foot stagger, if left handed left foot stagger

Toe to instep stagger (4"-6" back)

Start off with forearms on thighs, knees bent

Bring dominant hand straight down

Step away from child and check that toes are pointed straight, knees are not buckled, back straight and neck bowed with head up

If you continue to have problems- Try this tip: start child in 4 point stance (not too much weight forward) he/she should be able to lift non dominant hand up without assistance and place forearm on thigh.

Test: Weight Distribution

Once child is in stance take your hand and move athletes hand if he rocks forward or falls he has too much weight forward on hand.

The purpose of this drill is to insure athlete can step, pull and pass protect from this stance

In Goal line and Short Yardage-Athlete can add more weight to hand to increase power.

If teaching center stance-feet are usually a little wider and there is no stagger with feet. First make sure snap to QB is secure and then start practicing stepping and snapping.

Never let your child drop his head,  Head is always up to help prevent neck injuries.
